Press - From The Jam Bring Back Memories http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=274 From The Jam Bring Back Memories//Set to Release Live DVDI was 13 when my first favorite band broke up. The first band where I bought pins, read magazines, waited for release day. In the ensuing quarter century, I’ve loved a lot of bands that came and went, but was never as distressing as that first breakup. I assume for the generation before me, this is how they felt when the Beatles disbanded. For me, it was when The Jam, the U.K’s startlingly original mod revivalists, imploded in 1982. Sure, Paul Weller went on to do the Style Council and a solo career, both of which are great. However, nothing post-Jam ever captured that headlong snap and fire that characterized the work of Weller and his compatriots, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler. Due to one of our headline artists having another unavoidable commitment, we have had to make the difficult decision not to go ahead.Sound Sanctuary launched in a year when the UK is experiencing economic slowdown and, along with other festivals, ticket sales have been slow. As a result of the credit crunch suppliers have been unable to extend the credit facilities that all new events rely on. It’s a busy year for bands and all this, coupled with the crowded music events market, has made it difficult for us to replace this headline act at such short notice. We had a fantastic line-up - we would like to apologise to the bands and thank them for their understanding. We know how much their fans were looking forward to seeing them but Sound Sanctuary will be back next year, so keep checking our website www.soundsanctuary.com Announcement - US & Canadian Tour http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=261 FTJ are pleased to be traveling back across the pond for a twelve date tour of America and Canada. The tour starts at The State Theatre in Washington on the 24/9 and concludes at Brick By Brick in San Diego on 11/10. Review - FTJ @ The Tivoli http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=238 They never made much of an impression here in Oz, but the Jam are one of the quintessential British rock bands. In a period of prolific output in the late 70s and early 80s, the Paul Weller-fronted mod-rockers pumped out six albums in six years, collecting 18 consecutive top forty singles along the way. A record of nine top ten singles further cemented their legacy. Such was the popularity of the Jam in the UK that “Just Who Is the 5 O’Clock Hero?” made the British top ten without ever being released at home–it was only available as a Dutch import! Review - Prince of Wales, St Kilda http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=235 I am a big fan of the Jam; they rate in my top three bands and depending on what mood I’m in, they are my favourite band. Not only that, they are a big influence on my music and a motivation to get into music in the first place. Review - Kilda - Victoria, Australia http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=234 Having been an Australian fan of the jam who has now reached 43 years of age I was delighted for the opportunity to see From the Jam at the Prince Bandroom St Kilda last night. Review - FTJ "Exhilarating" http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=232 I suppose that the biggest question going into From The Jam’s show at The Blender Theatre at Gramercy on Saturday night was this: What was the band going to sound like without Paul Weller on vocals and guitar? The answer being, of course, that they sound different. But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Judging from the reaction of the crowd to the band, the audience were just glad to hear the songs played live again. Review - FTJ "Distinguished" http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=231 Distinguished. That is the best word to describe the band and the audience that showed up Tuesday night in San Francisco's classiest venue. Review - Life Is Timeless: FTJ in New York http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=230 “We are a tribute band in a sense, with the advantage that we have two (original) members in our ranks.”Pete Townshend wrote that, just a couple of weeks back, in an e-mail Question and Answer session with Who fans. But his words could as easily apply to the Who’s greatest offspring, the Jam, and the group currently touring under almost that name. Review - A Dream Come True http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=229 Who needs Paul Weller - long live the Jam! Don't get me wrong: In my opinion, he is one of the most talented living songwriters and deserves every award the music world has to offer. It's just that this Saturday night, when a teenage dream came true and I heard the Jam live, heard "Eton Rifles," "Private Hell" or "In the Crowd," I did not miss him a second. Review - FTJ Drops in on Stumptown http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=228 Late in January I had the chance to catch the reunion tour with the UK's original Jammers Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler and their touring outfit known as From The Jam. Review - Paul Who? http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=224 After From The Jam's blistering set on Saturday February 9,2008 at The Blender Theatre in New York City that was what everyone was wondering. These guys brought home the goods Saturday night to a >>>thiscloseto Review - Punk Rock, FTJ and Ubiquitous Technology http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=222 Last night, my wife and I went to see From The Jam at the Blender Theatre at Gramercy. This is two-thirds of The Jam, missing only Paul Weller. I last saw The Jam in 1982 at the Aragon in Chicago, and it was a transcendent experience: Paul Weller's guitar-playing was incandescent and inspiring, Bruce Foxton's bass exploded melodically, and the thunderous drumming of Rick Buckler almost caused my knees to buckle. Last night wasn't 1982, but it was still amazing and on occasion, I was 18 again. Review - That's Entertainment http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=221 When I found out 2/3 of The Jam were on tour performing the legendary UK band’s classic songs, I was instantly excited. Although America never quite embraced them, there’s no denying that they wrote some really amazing songs. Over the time waiting up to last night’s show, my excitement settled and was replaced by the expectations that they’d be just another group of old musicians cashing in on their past without the same passion as their hey-day. I’ve seen enough old washed-up musicians to know that these reunion tours are usually a big disappointment, especially when a quintessential member is missing. Press - Dig the New Breed: From the Jam http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=220 AS THE RECORD INDUSTRY STRUGGLES to remain profitable in an age of digital distribution, many musicians are discovering that revisiting the past is the best way to remain relevant. Review - FTJ Lee's Palace, Toronto http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=219 LIVE: Hugh Cornwell And From The Jam Still Have What It Takes.I admit I was quite skeptical a year ago when I first reported about bassist Bruce Foxton and drummer Rick Buckler reforming The Jam without the mod-punk band's lead singer, guitarist and chief songwriter, Paul Weller, under the name From The Jam. So I approached their headlining show on Wednesday night with a mix of curiosity and trepidation, but was comforted that former Stranglers singer/guitarist Hugh Cornwell was opening so that even if From The Jam lived down to my lowest expectations, the evening still wouldn't be a write-off. Review - FTJ @ The Abbey - Chicago, IL http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=218 As many of you are well aware, I wasn’t initially fond of the idea that Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler would forge ahead without Paul Weller and tour as From The Jam. A few heated exchanges with one of our UK readers, an interview with Bruce Foxton, and a lot of positive press later, I was more than ready to experience what sold out crowds across the pond have been raving about. Review - (Not so many light years) From The Jam http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=217 Just got back from seeing 2/3 of the Jam perform as From The Jam. Back in 1991 I saw 1/3 of the Jam when Paul Weller came through Seattle. Based on a show-to-show comparison 2/3 is better than 1/3. Yeah, I know, I'm surprised too. Review - Jam Today http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=216 I like my live music and being close to Vancouver where a lot of bands and artists stop off has allowed me to gig on a regular basis rather than the once or twice a year it had become when living in Kent. Interview - Ultimate-Guitar.Com - Bruce Foxton http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=211 One of the most important and influential British bands of the late 70’s and early 80’s were The Jam. Between the release of their debut album In The City in 1977 to their last studio effort The Gift in 1982, The Jam scored 18 straight top 40 singles in the UK alone, including four number 1 hits. In the wake of the band’s demise, their musical legacy began to influence a new breed of up and coming young British rockers from Blur to Kaiser Chiefs, who continue to keep The Jam’s tradition of three-minute, hook-driven British guitar pop alive. Press - From The Jam Hits North America http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=206 From The Jam, featuring Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler of iconic U.K. group The Jam, has announced a run of North American dates. The band, which also includes Dave Moore and Russell Hastings, will embark on a 14-city tour January 24 at House of Blues in San Diego. Press - North American Tour Dates http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=205 From The Jam have recently announced a major North American tour which begins on 24th January 2008 at the House of Blues in San Diego, California. The 14-date tour takes in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Anaheim, Chicago, to name but a few. Special guest on all North American dates is Hugh Cornwell, formerly the original singer and guitarist of The Stranglers. Press - Jam\'s Reputation Is Preserved By Band Duo http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=204 It's an odd thing, this current demand for the reformation of bands. But if least likely contenders Led Zep and the Sex Pistols can do it, then surely anything is possible so long as one or more original band members are in the land of the living. Interview: Rick Buckler of From the Jam http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=203 In 1977, The Jam stood out from the rest of the punk explosion pack. The band had been honing its craft in pub gigs for several years and, while full of punk energy, the power trio also knew its '60s chops--mod rock, soul and even psychedelia crept into its compositions. Review - UEA Norwich http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=202 December 1982, I thought the world had ended when I left Wembley Arena, London. The band that had shaped my teenage years had just played for the last time that evening. The Jam were more than a band, they were almost a religion. Review - The Forum Kentish Town http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=201 Since the demise of the Jam and Paul Weller’s other projects took him away from that style of music I must have seen a dozen Jam 'Tribute’ bands – some of them ok, some absolute crap but none generating the fervour or the sheer adrenaline rush that the original band did. Press - The music highs and lows of 2007 http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=200 Kingsley Harris, band promoter and curator of the East Anglia Music ArchiveCD of the Year - Locally it would have to be the Rory McVicar album simply called Rory McVicar. Overall, that's a difficult one but I'll plump for Seattle's coolest, Band Of Horses album Cease To Begin. Gig of the Year - I've seen a lot of great bands this year, but I really enjoyed From The Jam. I'm not trying to kid anyone, it was just a trip down memory lane but the atmosphere was electric. Low point - The Live Earth concert at Wembley. When are people going to realise that if we are going to save the planet it has to be done unconditionally. You won't get a thank you, a well done or a ticket to a concert. Although officially not a fundraiser The Intelligent Giving Foundation have been trying to track the money raised and to this day stand by their statement: “Nobody involved with the concerts seem to have any idea”.Tip for 2008 - Locally Violet Violet, The Brownies and The Monroes. Nationally I like the look of Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong amongst many others. Press - Weller-less From The Jam In Oregon Gig Shocker! http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=199 With the news from NEARLY ONE YEAR AGO about Jam bassist Bruce Foxton and drummer Rick Buckler getting back together with a couple of other lads to play Jam songs, the new group, known as From The Jam, have now added some newly written tracks and are in the process of reworking early Foxton Jam tunes for their first U.S. tour since the group's end in 1982 when group founder and main songwriter Paul Weller quit. Weller kept well away from this reunion http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=198 With The Jam's singer, guitarist and (almost) sole songwriter Paul Weller sat at home counting his money and self-respect, the men he left behind in 1982 (bassist Bruce Foxton and drummer Rick Buckler) have finally accepted there will be no re-formation. Press - The Jam reunites (sort of) for U.S. Tour http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=197 On the heels of a string of U.K. dates, mod-worshipping Brit-punk legends The Jam are about to invade the U.S.—again. Maybe this time, they’ll have more success cozying up to American eardrums. Press - A Fresh Helping of Jam http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=190 NEVER go back, they always say, but sometimes it just feels right. That seems to be the attitude of Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler, two thirds of the original legendary mod-punks The Jam, who are out and about on a 22-date tour of the UK. Review - Rock City, Nottingham http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=184 35 years ago, a band sprang out of Surrey called the Jam, fronted by Paul Weller on lead vocals and guitar with Bruce Foxton on bass and Rick Buckler on Drums. After 17 years of success, the three disbanded and went off their own ways after disagreements and side projects. Years later, Buckler formed a band called The Gift which would play Jam material, which Foxton would sometimes appear playing bass on live shows. This year, the two decided on recording some songs and touring the UK under the name ‘From the Jam’ on which they would be accompanied by fellow Gift members David Moore (playing Bass and Keyboards) and Russell Hastings (filling Weller’s place on guitar and lead vocals). And so on the cold Tuesday night of December 4th, Nottingham was fortunate to be one of the tour destinations. REVIEW: FROM THE JAM, ROCK CITY http://www.fromthejam.co.uk/latest.php?action=fullnews&id=179 For anyone who witnessed From The Jam's triumphant performance at the Rescue Rooms in May, last night came with dangerously high expectations. Could original members Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler, along with vocalist Russell Hastings and second guitarist Dave Moore, rekindle the magic once again, or was that springtime gig a unrepeatable fluke.
